Behavior & Husbandry
Blue Mandarins spend much of their day slowly hunting across rockwork and sand in search of copepods and small food items. Their peaceful nature and mesmerizing movement make them one of the most captivating fish in reef aquariums.
Biota captive-bred specimens are typically much better acclimated to aquarium life compared to wild-caught mandarins and often adapt more readily to prepared foods.
A mature aquarium with stable water conditions and established rockwork is still highly recommended for long-term success.
Feeding & Diet
Carnivorous with specialized feeding habits.
What We Feed at Lush Corals:
- Frozen foods
- Prepared foods
- Live copepods when needed
In Your Aquarium:
- Frozen mysis and small meaty foods
- Prepared foods

Although captive-bred specimens often eat prepared foods more readily, established pod populations remain highly beneficial.
