ABOUT DUNCAN CORAL

Green Duncan Corals are easy to care for and thrive in most reef tanks. They’re perfect for adding vibrant color to lower flow, low light areas of your aquarium.

Lighting Requirements for Duncan Coral

Duncan corals prefer moderate lighting and can tolerate a range of light intensities. Too much light can cause stress, while too little can slow growth.

  • Ideal PAR Range:
    75–150 PAR

    • 75–100 PAR: Best for shaded or lower-light areas of the tank.

    • 100–150 PAR: Ideal for healthy growth and vibrant coloration.

  • Spectrum:

    • A blue-dominant spectrum (400–470nm) is ideal to enhance the coral’s natural colors.

    • Full-spectrum lighting with a mix of blue and white light also works well.

  • Lighting Type:

    • Duncan corals do well under LEDs, T5HO, or metal halide lighting, as long as the intensity is within the recommended PAR range.

  • Placement Tips:

    • Position them in mid to lower sections of the tank, away from direct, intense light.

    • Ensure they get enough light for healthy growth without causing stress or bleaching.

Water Flow Requirements for Duncan Coral

Duncan corals thrive in moderate flow conditions. They prefer gentle, intermittent movement that allows their polyps to extend fully without being blasted by strong currents.

  • Flow Type:

    • Moderate, indirect flow is ideal.

    • Avoid strong, direct water blasts that could cause damage to their delicate polyps or cause them to retract.

  • Why It Matters:
Moderate flow helps with nutrient exchange, gas exchange, and keeps debris from settling on the coral. Too much flow can cause the polyps to stay retracted, while too little flow can hinder their growth.

  • Placement Tips:

Position them in areas with gentle, varied flow such as the edges of turbulent zones, but not in the direct path of powerheads or wave makers.
