Quick Facts

  • Care Level: Moderate
  • Temperament: Peaceful
  • Reef Compatibility: Reef Safe
  • Minimum Tank Size: 70 gallons
  • Size: Ranging from approximately 3–5 inches at adult size

Behavior & Husbandry

Lyretail Anthias are active schooling fish that thrive in larger aquariums with plenty of open swimming space and strong water movement. They spend most of their time swimming in the water column and add constant motion to the tank.

In groups, a social hierarchy will naturally form, typically with one dominant male and multiple females. In some cases, females may transition into males over time if no male is present.

They do best in stable reef systems with peaceful tankmates and frequent feeding.

Feeding & Diet

Carnivorous with high metabolisms that benefit from multiple daily feedings.

What We Feed at Lush Corals:

  • Frozen mysis shrimp
  • Enriched brine shrimp
  • Small pellet foods

In Your Aquarium:

  • Frozen mysis and brine
  • Small pellets
  • Finely sized meaty foods

Frequent feeding is highly recommended to maintain health, coloration, and body weight.

Compatibility Notes

Works well with:

  • Tangs
  • Wrasses
  • Clownfish
  • Other peaceful reef fish

Avoid aggressive tankmates that may outcompete them for food or cause stress.

Male vs Female

  • Males: Larger with elongated fin streamers and more intense red/purple coloration
  • Females: Bright orange coloration with a more streamlined appearance

Both sexes are highly active and visually striking additions to reef aquariums.

Lush Corals Conditioning Process

This fish has been carefully conditioned and prepared prior to sale.

While certain species such as anthias are not held through our full quarantine process, each fish is:

  • Carefully inspected upon arrival
  • Proactively dipped and treated
  • Observed for health and behavior
  • Conditioned to eat prepared foods

This ensures your fish arrives healthy, feeding, and well-adjusted, giving you a strong start in your aquarium.
