Maroon Clownfish
One of the boldest and most recognizable clownfish species in the hobby, the Maroon Clownfish is known for its deep red coloration, striking striping, and strong personality. Larger and more assertive than Ocellaris or Percula clownfish, this species makes a stunning centerpiece in reef and fish-only aquariums.
🔵 Conditioned & Prepared – Actively Eating
Quick Facts
- Care Level: Easy–Moderate
- Temperament: Aggressive
- Reef Compatibility: Reef Safe
- Minimum Tank Size: 30 gallons
- Size: Ranging from approximately 3–6 inches at adult size
Behavior & Husbandry
Maroon Clownfish are hardy and highly adaptable but are known for their territorial behavior, especially as they mature. Females grow significantly larger than males and can become aggressive toward other clownfish or fish that enter their territory.
They are excellent hosts for anemones but do not require one to thrive. Providing rockwork and defined territory areas helps reduce aggression within the aquarium.
Because of their size and temperament, they are generally best kept singly or as a bonded pair.
Feeding & Diet
Omnivorous and extremely easy to feed.
What We Feed at Lush Corals:
- Frozen mysis shrimp
- Enriched brine shrimp
- High-quality pellets
In Your Aquarium:
- Frozen foods
- Pellets
- Flake foods
They are aggressive feeders and adapt very quickly to prepared foods.
Compatibility Notes
Compatible with:
- Tangs
- Wrasses
- Larger reef-safe fish
