Behavior & Husbandry
Red Mandarins spend much of their day slowly hunting across rockwork and sand in search of copepods and other microfauna. Their calm nature and constant foraging behavior make them fascinating fish to observe in reef aquariums.
They do best in mature systems with established live rock, stable water conditions, and peaceful tankmates. Because they are slow, methodical feeders, they should not be housed with aggressive or highly competitive fish that may outcompete them for food.
A mature aquarium with healthy pod populations is strongly recommended for long-term success.
